Banning Indian Content In Pakistan: Are the strategies enough?

The endless war between India and Pakistan has reached its brim after a break of nearly a decade. The different scenario encountered this time is that Pakistan has decided to answer India by banning the Indian content being aired in Pakistan; something which was needed from a long time.Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has decided to crackdown on the illegal Indian DTH (direct to home) channels. The Punjab government is collaborating on this issue in implementing this strategy. Not only this but Pakistani Cinema has also decided not to screen Indian content in response to the displacement of celebrities working in India.

Although these strategies seem quite effective yet there are many questions which need to be answered. PEMRA needs to decide the magnitude of the shows which are currently being on-aired as nearly all of the private channels conglomerates  have dedicated a separate channels to "legally" telecast the Indian content. Here it should also be noted that usually the name of their gods are muted while transmission. Now as far as the studies reveal that visuals have more impact on the human brain than the audios. In short, transmitting all the culture, norms and values to the locals by only "muting" the name of there religious practices in not an effective strategy to implement.

The second issue at hand is that there should be clear demarcation of nationalism and racism as the Hindu community, though minority, is also a part of our society. Religion is something quite near and dear to a person therefore, instead of targeting there religion, there is need to screen the content before telecasting it. The crackdown on DTH seems an effective strategies as most of the inappropriate content is screened from them without any check and balance

Fragile Indo-Pak relations need to be strengthened  by small initiatives by both countries. If banning the content on the basis of "belonging from a nation" can solve there disputes then both need to reconsider their priorities. They have to focus on the "content". They have to take strong measures to solve there differences. Government of Pakistan is working on designing comprehensive strategy to counter illegal activities however, for promotion of anti-war sentiments among the nations; both have to focus on bringing the nations closer instead of  complicating there relations.
